Below are lists of some of our activities since 2022
2023 ACTIONS 1. We obtained a corporate office 2. We interviewed 8 influential community members 3. We started a monthly e-newsletter 4. The Education committee hosted our 1st Islamic School Fair & Expo @ The Philly School District 5. We started an Economic Development Committee 6. We helped to sponsor the Halal Food Festival in Phoenixville, Pa 7. We published a book titled: “Sex Education in Islam,” available on Amazon 8. We interviewed all the viable candidates for Philly Mayor in 2023, firmly requesting an Office of Islamic Affairs, which in 2024 came into fruition partly due to our efforts 9. The Majlis’ Economic Development Committee started to solicit current and/or future community projects with a commercial component and that are serious, in-order to enable the Muslim-community to invest collectively and benefit collectively in a sustainable and beneficial project 10. 2024 ACTIONS 1. We partnered with CAIR to have a medical professional for their 2024 banquet in Springfield, Pa 2. We hosted three town halls in 2024 (Philly Masjid, Masjid Muhammad, & Makkah Masjid), in order to hear public concerns and to solicit sincere assistance 3. We started a YouTube page 4. In 2024, the Majlis’ Economic Development Committee researched and presented the Israeli-owned date (the fruit) companies 5. The Education committee hosted our 2nd Islamic School Fair & Expo @ The Philly School District in July. The video is available on our YouTube page 6. In July we started a new Facebook page 7. In August, in conjuction with Mediation BIP, LLC, we hosted a zoom presentation on Volunteering with Ihsaan (Proficiency), which was recorded and is available on YouTube 8. In September, we interviewed sister Najah Siddiq, one of the founders and organizers of the Philly Halal Food Festival, which is available on our YouTube page. 9. For Islamic Heritage Foundation's annual banquet, the Majlis purchased a table and a full-page ad 10. We sent a letter to the Scool District of Philadelphia in support of sister Keziah Ridgeway, a Muslim and African American teacher of History and Anthropology at Northeast High, who was suspended by the School District of Philadelphia 11. In November, we held a meeting and brainstorming session in conjunction with the Philadelphia Mayor's Office of Muslim Engagement, at City Hall. 2022 ACTIONS 1. We revamped our by-laws 2. We revamped our website 3. The Eid committee hosted a fundraiser for the Eid at Kingsessing Rec center 4. We started a Telegram (social media) group, which is open to any Muslim 5. The Da’wah committee partnered with Masjid Al-Madinah (in Upper Darby, Pa) for a joint event 6. We collaborated with Black Muslim Men United for a Better Philadelphia, rallying and marching in the northwest section of Philadelphia, along with local police, calling for action against gun violence 7. We condensed the length of our monthly general meetings
2025 ACTIONS 1. In January, the Education Committe hosted its 2nd annual Ramadan & Beyond event. Assisting educators and admins on handling pertinent concerns as they relate to Muslim students. 2. In March, the Education Committee hosted an iftar (fast breaking) in the banquet hall of Masjid Hidaya in Philadelphia. Targeting those directly involved in education. 3. In March, the Majlis purchased a full page ad congratualting The International League of Muslim Women 4. In March, we changed our address to 4414 Germantown Ave. ,3rd flr, suite C Phila., PA 19140 5. In March, the Majlis entered a coalition with Universal Muslim Business Association & Nicetown Community Development Corporation 6. In June, the Economic Development Committee hosted their 1st annual fundraising bowling party at V&S Elmwood Lanes 7. In July, we sent a letter in support of Imam Jamil Al-Amin (a.k.a. H. Rap Brown) to the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Parole; Fulton County's DA Fani Willis; the U.S. Bureau of Prisons; and the Department of Corrections Medical Staff. We requested that the Imam obtain a medical reprieve (if applicable), or receive the proper medical care with medical informed consent. 8. In August, the Education Committee started their own Facebook page 9. In August, we sent a letter of appreciation to Philadelphia's Mayor Cherelle L. Parker. Publicly thanking her for starting the Mayor's Office of Muslim Engagement (O.M.E.). This office primarily attempts to help bring City resources to Philly Muslims, and amplify their good works. 10. In September, U.M.M.A.H. of the Majlis, provided training for youth in North Philly. Focusing on the 4 main elements of gun safety: never play with guns; always assume a gun is loaded; muzzle control; and never placing your fingers on a trigger, unless you are ready to shoot (if applicable). 10. In October, U.M.M.A.H. of the Majlis participated and spoke at a peace walk around 28th and York, in the north Philly section of the city, calling attention to the violence in our neighborhoods, and how others can dramatically assist. Especially with jobs/careers. 11. In October, the education committee hosted its 3rd annual Islamic School Fair & Expo at the headquarters of the School District of Philadelphia. During the event, the committee awarded two (2) families with $3,000 a piece to go directly towards their child attending an Islamic school in the area. A 3rd recipient of a scholarship, inshaaAllah, is forthcoming. The scholarship is named: Direct Impact Funding Resources from Neighborly Sharing (DIFRNS) 12. In November, U.M.M.A.H. hosted a training session on de-escalating techniques at Masjid Muhammad in Philadelphia
2026 ACTIONS 1. In January, the Economic Development Committee conducted a popcorn fundraiser. All proceeds went to the DIFRNS (scholarship fund of the Education Committee) to assist Muslim children in attending an Islamic school of their choice. 2. In January, U.M.M.A.H. of the majlis was in attendance at a Citizen’s Police Oversight Commission Event (Philadelphia) 3. In February, U.M.M.A.H. represented the Majlis at a peace gathering at Ridge Ave. and Croskey Street in Philadelphia. Due to a quadruple shooting, which led to one person being killed. 4. In February, the Education Committee hosted its 3rd annual Teach-and-Reach program, targeting non-Muslim educators in the City of Philadelphia,. Offering them advice on legal matters (partnering with CAIR Philly); fasting; prayer in schools; and more. This program was accessed virtually, due to weather related conditions. 5. In February, the Economic Development Committee rolled-out a program, where anyone can shop online at the store of their choice, and a portion of their money spent would go to the Majlis Ash-Shura of the Delaware Valley. Helping us to fund our operations. 6. In February, the Majlis paid for an advertisement billboard at the intersection of Cottman Ave. and Roosevelt Blvd. (in Philadelphia) along with other Islamic organizations, entities, and businesses, welcoming the month of Ramadan.
